Quality improvement for maternal and newborn health in Mtwara Region Tanzania (IMCHA) "Quality Improvement for Maternal and Newborn Health At District-level Scale(QUADS)"

This project uses the approach of collaborative quality improvement (QI), which is a bottom-up problem solving method that can be used to strengthen health systems. When applied to maternal and newborn health, it can be used to improve both the quality of and the demand for maternal and newborn health services.

To achieve measurable improvements we are integrating the quality improvement strategy at District level health system and regional level. Ultimately, we aim to achieve higher quality of maternal and newborn health care services, better care seeking, and improved maternal and newborn healthcare outcomes.

Quality improvement teams are formed at the council health management team (CHMT), health facilities and community levels. There are series of learning sessions where teams develop change strategies to address various change topics related to MNH complemented with follow-up mentorship and coaching visits as well as sharing experiences implementing QI in subsequent learning sessions. Run charts are used to track progress throughout.

Using a phased implementation we are targeting Tandahimba and Newala district health facilities followed by Masasi town council and Masasi district council.#
