Research Scientist
daniel@arcad.ac.ugDr. Ssentamu Daniel is a Research Scientist and Clinician at the ARCAD. She is the Head of the One Stop Clinic: a family based HIV care model for reduction of mother to child transmission of HIV, and a coordinator of malnutrition program which aims improving care and survival of malnourished children.
She holds a Master of Science degree in Global Health and Development from University College London and a degree of doctor of medicine from Muhimbili University of Health and Allied Sciences.
She has also attended several research trainings including EACS HIV summer school in 2017, Gilead-HIV clinical research leadership in 2019 and SwissTPH/Lugano summer school in Public Health Policy, Economics and Management in 2020.
Dr. Getrud’s main interest is to meld clinical practice with research findings to create policy impact. She participated in review of Tanzania national guideline for integrated management of acute malnutrition in children. She is also a recipient of 2018 IHI DRIF Award and a Chevening alumni. Besides providing clinical care to people living with HIV enrolled in the Kilombero and Ulanga Anti-retroviral Cohort, she has also conducted several research activities including investigating prevalence of post-partum depression among women, clinical outcomes of HIV infected adolescents and causes of deaths among people living with HIV in rural Tanzania. She is also a principal investigator for an ESTHER funded partnership grant directed at improving care for malnourished children in Kilombero district.#
